Giles FitzHerbert, organiser of the Irish Green Gathering, urges anyone who attended our event a couple of weeks ago to try and go to the Terra Madre event taking place in Waterford from 4 to 7 September. Organised by Slow Food Ireland this is a major, international, green event with sustainability as its theme. Attending Terra Madre will be a brilliant opportunity to meet the pioneers of Ireland’s new food culture, led by Darina Allen of Ballymaloe and to participate in some of the nearly 40 workshops which will be taking place during this weekend. Workshop topics range from Family Farming to Eating and Mental Health and from Developing a Responsible Drinking Culture to Edible School Gardens. Not to mention the opportunity to hear the views of Ireland’s two Ministers of Food, Trevor Sargent from the Republic and Michelle Gildernew from the North, followed by President Mary McAleese, and the chance to feast off the best food Ireland has to offer at banquets on both the Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as at a Slow Food lunch on the Friday.
Check out the Terra Madra website straight away to book in for the festival and the workshops.
